Regardless of the type of sport, it’s always fascinating to see how some facilities embrace design in all its forms. This includes not only the design of the ‘product’, but also the design of the ‘service’, understood as the experience offered to the user, as well as the ability to use the facilities for different activities. We recently visited Belgium to see the Velodrome, an indoor velodrome located in Heusden-Zolder. Spanning over 15,000 m², this sports complex offers everything an athlete, whether recreational or competitive, could need. The most outstanding feature, however, is undoubtedly the 250-meter wooden cycling track, commonly referred to as the velodrome. In the central area, there are four sports fields for various other sports such as basketball, indoor football and badminton. The complex also offers a range of services, including meeting rooms, bicycle lockers and rental, a fitness lab and catering facilities. A modern 1,000 m² gymnasium and a fully equipped medical centre for the adjacent Zolder Circuit complete this impressive facility.
