South Tyrol is increasingly rich in fascinating places that are waiting to be discovered and enjoyed. The approach here is both rational and strongly design-oriented, complemented by a range of services. I came across a project with great potential for the region: a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to culture, an innovative approach to service design and, consequently, a significant impact on the landscape of the region to attract a specific audience.
On behalf of the Signa Group, Snøhetta has initiated a design exploration for the development of a new museum district in Bolzano.
This distinctive structure is designed to adorn the summit of the prominent Virgolo/Virgl mountain, offering a panoramic view of the capital of South Tyrol in northern Italy.
As a new landmark, this elevated public space will be seamlessly integrated into the city, thanks to its proximity to the center of Bolzano and its accessible cable car connection.
It will function as a terrace for the city’s inhabitants.
The Museum Quarter will house the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology and the Civic Museum of Bolzano.
It will also include a concert hall and exhibition spaces dedicated to Ötzi the Iceman.
