I have always been intrigued by the idea of transforming public spaces into structured yet open workout environments, particularly when recycled containers are used to redefine the relationship between architecture and the urban landscape, offering flexible and innovative solutions for the everyday use of outdoor spaces.
In Dubai, the Municipality has opened applications for investors interested in installing container-style gyms across three outdoor locations: Al Khawaneej Pond Park, Al Barsha South Park and Al Mamzar Corniche, redefining outdoor fitness through modular facilities integrated within the city’s green areas. These sheltered yet open-air facilities aim to make workouts accessible, enjoyable, and innovative, creating protected environments that remain fully connected to the surrounding park landscape. The concept combines modular architecture with a careful approach to spatial design, enabling year-round training while preserving the openness typical of public parks. By integrating the structures within existing walking paths and green areas, the initiative enhances the daily use of these urban environments and encourages a more active lifestyle. The modular nature of the project allows the installations to adapt to different park settings, expanding accessibility while maintaining a balanced relationship between functionality, design and the public space.
