Recently, we have witnessed the opening of several stores in China that embody what I see as an evolutionary feature of Chinese retail. Indeed, the new generation of stores combines creativity, innovation, modernity, order and often functionality thanks to a strong design component.
Multi-brand cosmetics retailer HARMAY continues to make its mark across China with design-led retail spaces.
The latest addition recently opened its doors in Chongqing and has a significant presence in a renovated shopping mall that caters primarily to a young clientele.
The store draws inspiration from the city’s underground network of factories, and the architectural intervention by Shanghai-based AIM Architecture is noteworthy.
Located below street level, the store creates an ambiance characterized by a massive conveyor belt, generators and an array of industrial equipment.
The space has a strong identity in terms of color and aesthetics.
The conveyor belt also serves as a showcase for the brand’s extensive product range, complemented by neatly arranged rows of shelves.
