Art momentum.
Starting from its new location, a hangar at Santa Monica Airport, it was interesting to see how, until last Sunday, Frieze LA also flooded the city with initiatives and activities.
Over the last months, there has been a steady stream of new gallery openings, many of which have their original outposts in New York and London.
What’s different this time around? For starters, more gallerists; the collector base has swelled with people who have decamped from San Francisco; museums continue to strengthen their standing; and the clustering of so many actively acquisitive institutions is a significant draw (plus, never underestimate the power of sunshine during the winter).
