I follow with real interest the projects that use artificial intelligence not to replace the narrative but to multiply its possible connections, surfacing links that used to stay hidden across eras, genres and authors. On the fourth floor of the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, the experience known as Musical Crossroads has been reimagined through a collaboration between IBM and design studio Field.io, which applied watsonx technology to read the museum’s archive as a network of relationships. A large interactive table lets visitors move in real time between artists, songs and eras, discovering how sounds and styles influence one another and resurface in unexpected places. The experience abandons the chronological structure typical of music exhibitions in favour of access through connection, where each genre links naturally to others through photographs, interpretive text and listening. The project builds on nearly a decade of collaboration between the technology company and the cultural institution, and reflects a broader strategy in which artificial intelligence becomes a tool for cultural value creation before it becomes one for entertainment. Turning an archive into an explorable interface means restoring complexity to the history of music, giving a wide audience a tool capable of making tangible the richness of connections that normally stay confined to industry insiders and specialists.
