Following the last Olympics games, the popularity of winter sports surged in China, particularly in areas like Chongli, a well-known ski destination. A group of enthusiasts saw an opportunity to create a unique coffee bar that blends business innovation with local culture, resulting in Cang 41.
The project was strategically designed by the design firm JUMGO, which developed the concept of a “North Latitude 41° Ski Cellar.” This design approach emphasizes a strong, eye-catching storefront. Drawing inspiration from polar research stations, the exterior features bold angular lines and a striking red color, creating a visually prominent structure in the snowy landscape.
Internally, the design contrasts sharply with the exterior’s boldness. Instead of vibrant colors, visitors are greeted by warm, welcoming tones, soft curves in the seating, and refined ceiling details, creating a comforting environment that contrasts with the cold, harsh weather outside. This duality—bold and inviting—is key to attracting and retaining customers.
By combining cultural relevance, striking architecture, and thoughtful spatial design, Cang 41 sets itself up as more than just a seasonal business—it becomes a model for businesses targeting emerging winter tourism markets.
