In the heart of New York, within a building historically linked to luxury cosmetics, a new retail concept is redefining the relationship between physical and digital. Basic.Space has transformed an apparently “ordinary” location into a realm of curiosity and wonder, where every object tells a story and invites unexpected experiences. The installation features iconic pieces of design and fashion, from contemporary furnishings to bronze sculptures, presenting a spectrum that spans from accessible to ultra-luxury.
Gufram brings its celebrated Andy Warhol-inspired cacti, while Eckhaus Latta and David Lê curate a selection of vintage and contemporary collectibles. Carpenters Workshop Gallery presents seating that ranges from Rick Owens’ monumental slabs to the soft, tactile creations of the Campana Brothers. Kris Van Assche displays bronze sculptures alongside Jean Royère’s renowned “Polar Bear” sofa, the show’s centerpiece valued at $1.9 million.
Basic.Space’s philosophy challenges traditional categories: it is neither a fair, nor a gallery, nor a shop. It is an immersive shopping experience that seamlessly bridges online and offline worlds. Launched in 2020 as a semi-exclusive digital marketplace, the platform initially focused on secondhand fashion before expanding to furniture, books, vintage tech, and collectibles. The New York physical activation brings this vision to life, allowing guests to interact with and purchase products directly, both in-person and online.
Items priced in the hundreds of dollars coexist with six- and seven-figure creations, from art books to MSCHF handbags, through uniquely shaped tables and Kidsuper apparel displayed alongside sculptural sofas. The result is a space where exclusivity does not mean exclusion: every visitor is invited to engage with the experience, whether they purchase or simply absorb inspiration.
