Many people are passionate about industrial reclamation or disused spaces, and I am one of them. Often these interventions reveal unexpected creativity, especially when there is a special synergy between the space and the content of the project.
Such is the case with the two-storey Fabiani Bridge in Ljubljana, which was transformed for urban planning reasons and became, in part, a truly remarkable skate park.
In a city where such situations are rare, the architectural firm Scapelab, in collaboration with the local skateboarding community, brought this project to life.
It’s the only skatepark open 24/7, 365 days a year, and it’s protected from rain, wind and snow, making it incredibly popular.
From an architectural standpoint, it is an excellent example of a radical change in function and user experience.
