Carrying a cultural identity into a completely different geographic context without losing it and without imposing it: this is perhaps the most complex challenge in contemporary design. It is not a matter of adaptation, nor of replication. It is about constructing something that could not exist anywhere else, while remaining unmistakably itself. Rarely have I seen this difficulty resolved with such precision as when a brand of the highest tradition decides to enter into genuine dialogue with the place that hosts it, rather than simply replicating itself in flagship format.
The Pierre Hermé Paris Flagship Store in Singapore, designed by CCD Singapore and opened at Resorts World Sentosa, spans 572 square meters across two levels and embodies this logic with structural coherence. The project did not attempt to reproduce the Parisian boutique in the tropics. It posed a different question: what would Pierre Hermé Paris look and feel like if it had always been here. The answer begins outside, where macaron sculptures are woven into lush tropical vegetation, transforming the brand’s most recognizable symbol into something organic, almost natural.
Inside, the project worked through contrast: smooth terrazzo floors and warm timber surfaces, a Murano glass chandelier shaped like a tropical bloom hovering above the central circular counter clad in ceramics drawn from the brand’s signature color palette. On the second floor, the program expands to include the maison’s first-ever Ice Cream Bar and Bubble Tea Collection — both world firsts — alongside Table by Pierre Hermé, the brand’s dining concept. Every decision — from cloth packaging inspired by East Asian gift-giving traditions to in-house signage — participates in a unified system where architecture, material, and display form a single language. In 2026, the project received the title of World’s Best Pastry Shop from the French guide La Liste, a recognition that measures not only product quality but the capacity of an idea to belong in the world.
