The unveiled design for the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival (HVSF) building, created by Studio Gang with a site plan designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects, features an outdoor theater and a series of pavilions.
The fluid wood structure underscores the project’s ambition to be the first purpose-built LEED Platinum theater in the United States.
The goal is not only to serve as a central hub for the local performing arts community, but also to become a major cultural attraction for the entire Hudson Valley region of New York.
This new, sustainable cultural center, set against a truly unique natural backdrop, enhances the traditions that define its outdoor performances.
Examples include the spectacular proscenium arch framing an iconic view of the Hudson River and the creation of new opportunities for audience and performer interaction before and after the show.
The site’s ecology is also receiving increased attention, replacing a monoculture lawn with a biodiverse landscape.
