The new Milano Cortina Olympic Village, designed by global architecture studio SOM, represents a singular opportunity: to transform the 2026 Winter Games into a catalyst for urban and social innovation at the heart of Milan’s Porta Romana district. As a key component of the former rail yard master plan, the project sets a pioneering model of sustainability and inclusivity—designed to thrive well beyond the event itself.
Architecturally inspired by the site’s industrial heritage, the village merges memory and modernity through low-carbon materials, modular façades, and an extensive network of green spaces. After the Olympics, athletes’ residences will become student housing and community facilities, while public plazas and pathways will evolve into a vibrant, accessible neighborhood fabric.
