A few months ago in Berlin, I visited a center dedicated to journalism—an innovative space within the publishing landscape. What struck me the most was its purpose, which holds significant value, especially for young professionals entering the field.
Publix is an initiative of the Schoepflin Foundation, an organization committed to fostering critical thinking, a vibrant democracy, and a diverse society. Its mission is to ensure a pluralistic and independent media landscape across Germany and Europe, support journalistic innovation, strengthen democratic discourse, and combat misinformation.
One of Publix’s flagship initiatives is its Journalist Fellowship, supported by a network of over a dozen funding partners. This program brings together reporters and editors from around the world, offering mid-career journalists the opportunity to step away from their daily work and explore journalism in greater depth. Recognized as one of the leading fellowships of its kind, it serves as a vital platform for professional growth and the advancement of high-quality journalism.
