The Paris-based studio Waiting for Ideas, founded by Jean-Baptiste Anotin in 2021, has transformed the turntable into a minimalist and sophisticated design object. The PP-1 is an all-aluminum turntable, designed to enhance the ritual of vinyl listening and appeal to an audience of analog sound enthusiasts.
Made from a single block of aluminum, the PP-1 stands out for its monolithic aesthetic and recessed platter, which allows the vinyl to appear flush with the surface. The design is complemented by a pair of matching speakers, with the same dimensions as the turntable, which can be stacked or separated for a traditional stereo setup.
One of the most innovative features of the PP-1 is the absence of the classic tonearm. The needle is placed beneath the platter and activates automatically when the record is inserted, offering a simplified and immersive user experience. Additionally, the system detects whether the vinyl is 33 or 45 RPM, further emphasizing the concept of essentiality and refinement.
