Recently completed, this project of educational architecture explores how architects have increasingly focused on fostering individual creativity, critical thinking, and exploration.
Drawing inspiration from natural landscapes, the design of Wuzhou Primary School’s Learning Landscape creates a dynamic terrain of differentiated spaces for exploration, imaginative play, and sensory engagement.
A diverse array of learning environments is integrated to offer unique educational experiences that cater to the varying needs of students, reflecting a shift toward student-centered teaching.
Developed by the People’s Architecture Office, the project features adaptable spaces that can evolve with changing educational approaches and curricula.
Even the exterior spaces are designed to support learning. Large openings, covered outdoor areas, and flexible furniture blur the lines between indoor and outdoor environments. These open-air spaces enable students to engage in hands-on scientific experiments, study nature directly, and move beyond the constraints of traditional desks.
The school is organized around three central ‘landscape’ elements: the Mountain in the north courtyard, the Beach in the south courtyard, and the Valley that connects the two courtyards.
