A few years ago, only a few of these initiatives were known. I’ve been fortunate enough to see several in different countries and contexts, each with its own charm that stems from the architecture or creative disciplines found within, or even just the purpose these structures have had since their inception.
Designed by OMA, the multi-functional BLOX building on Copenhagen’s waterfront aims to foster interdisciplinary thinking to help build a more sustainable future.
Exhibition spaces, offices, co-working spaces, a café, a bookstore, a fitness center, a restaurant, twenty-two apartments, and an automated underground public parking garage: all this is BLOX, the new headquarters of the Danish Architecture Center (DAC) in Copenhagen.
Home to four organizations focused on architecture, design and creativity, BLOX welcomes more than 250,000 visitors a year, and more than 1,000 people work in the building.
