Creativity, when properly channeled, does not simply shape a project, but transforms it into an immersive experience, capable of engaging with and enhancing its context. This principle, which applies to both marketing and architecture, shines through in a recent urban intervention in Lisbon.
The new lower station of the funicular, designed by the Atelier Bugio studio, creates a seamless connection between the Graça Hill and the lower city, integrating harmoniously into the historical and topographical fabric of the city. Thanks to a carefully designed spatial sequence and material continuity, the double-height space serves as a natural gateway, guiding visitors on a sensory journey that begins from the street and culminates in a breathtaking view.
The funicular’s route gently embraces the perimeter of the adjacent convent, crossing a new green space that develops organically before diving into a curved tunnel, designed to maintain the visual harmony of the landscape. Finally, as the route reemerges on Calçada da Graça, the view opens up onto the charming Jardim Augusto Gil and the Tagus River, offering an emotional experience that leaves a lasting impression.
This example of empathetic and strategic design offers a valuable lesson for the business world as well: creating meaningful and engaging connections requires vision, attention to detail, and respect for context, much like in experiential marketing.
