Ever since I experienced the new high-speed trains in Japan (reaching speeds of over 300 km/h), I have been even more attracted to this mode of transportation. Design has finally found its way into this product category and, it seems, so has the level of service. It is worth noting that investments in this direction are increasing significantly in many countries around the world, with a positive impact on environmental sustainability as well.
In Denmark, as Nate Berg reports on FastCompany, the new high-speed trains are inspired by the country’s mix of large and small cities, with direct references to their classic mid-century design and embrace of the cozy concept of “hygge.” They are intended to embody the essence of Danish culture.
Designed by Copenhagen-based Johannes Torpe Studios, these new trains are an elegant combination of subtle ambient lighting, seats that offer both privacy and comfort, and a material palette directly inspired by the Danish landscape.
These trains serve the dual purpose of providing high-speed connections between Denmark’s few large cities, as well as shorter distances between the country’s diverse towns and villages.
