Japanese brand Human Made has officially opened its new store in Hong Kong, attracting fans and customers eager for a unique retail experience. This launch marks the renewed collaboration between founder Nigo and architect Masamichi Katayama of Wonderwall® after a decade apart.
The store’s design stands out for its seamless integration with historical and environmental elements. Katayama envisioned the space as a 1920s boutique within the legendary Repulse Bay Hotel, blending colonial aesthetics with Human Brand’s signature style. The result is an environment that embodies the brand’s slogan: “The Future is in the Past.”
Nigo and Katayama have a longstanding creative synergy, dating back over 20 years. Their workflow remains intuitive and straightforward: Nigo conveys his vision, Katayama translates it into design, and after a preliminary model is approved, the project moves into execution until final handover.
The opening of the brand in Hong Kong is more than just a retail expansion—it is a testament to brand consistency, storytelling, and experiential retail. It exemplifies how design can enhance brand value, transforming a store into a cultural and sensory experience.
