A few weeks ago, Paris hosted various initiatives developed throughout the city, in addition, of course, to the Summer Olympics. Architecture played a central role, and not just for the sports facilities.
One of the most significant new projects is Kengo Kuma’s completed design for the Saint-Denis-Pleyel metro station, which highlights the city’s push for sustainable urban renewal as part of its role as host of this year’s Summer Olympics.
The 35,000 square meter station is designed to accommodate 250,000 passengers per day. Key features include fire-resistant fir acoustic roof panels and a seamless connection to the future Pleyel Bridge, designed by Marc Mimram and expected to open by the end of 2026.
From a design perspective, special attention has been paid to integrating the station into its surroundings, with a particular focus on improving transport services and accessibility. Environmental sustainability is at the heart of the entire project.
