As you may know, coffee culture is deeply rooted in some parts of Asia. It’s not just about the beverage itself, but also about the social aspect – coffee shops serve as spaces where people gather and connect. Design plays a key role in this experience, enhancing the atmosphere and encouraging people to visit these spaces more often.
Seoul exemplifies this trend with its vibrant coffee culture, boasting more coffee shops per capita than any other city in the world. These range from international chains and local franchises to themed cafes and a growing number of quality independent spots.
One such café, Perception, is located in the Hapjeong district, an area favored for its cafes due to its proximity to several major universities and a prestigious art school. Perception stands out for its eye-catching ceiling, a flowing structure of curved wooden slats that architect and designer Jung Hae Jun-Feelament has aptly named “The Shading Tree”.
