Today, I couldn’t help but turn my attention to Wimbledon, following yesterday’s remarkable Italian victory in the men’s singles.
The historic and prestigious club reaffirms its commitment to maintaining global leadership in tennis through strategic infrastructure investments. The new indoor centre, designed by Hopkins Architects for the All England Lawn Tennis Club, marks a significant evolution of the venue.
The project includes six new indoor courts, six outdoor clay courts, upgraded locker rooms, a members’ bar, and a strong focus on accessibility, with wider corridors and entrances, and step-free access via elevator. The distinctive undulating timber-clad roof blends design and function, while the carefully chosen colour palette and sustainable materials—starting with the timber structure—reflect the club’s environmental commitment.
At the end of the day, the vision was clear: to deliver state-of-the-art facilities available year-round for members, fully integrated into the organisation of The Championships. This investment reinforces Wimbledon’s role as a global stage for tennis.
