In Greenpoint, Brooklyn (NYC), a former car garage has been transformed into a captivating gateway to Japan, thanks to its new occupant, 50 Norman.
This marketplace comprises three distinct spaces that showcase the finest elements of Japanese design and cuisine.
Leading this remarkable project is Jo Nagasaka, the visionary founder of Tokyo’s esteemed Schemata Architects.
Collaborating with the skilled artisans from TANK and the talented Japanese design and construction team BLANK, they ingeniously revamped the garage into a stunning retail space, utilizing reclaimed wood salvaged from demolished Kyoto residences.
The enchanting, sandblasted signage adorning the marketplace was brilliantly conceived by graphic designer Rikako Nagashima from Village.
The result is a modern representation of a long-standing cultural tradition, where the essence of Japan’s heritage seamlessly merges with contemporary aesthetics.
