The Benjamin Murúa Architects studio designed an underground dome in Chile’s Atacama Desert.
The complex’s construction needed careful consideration and adaptation to the effects of extreme environmental conditions such as high radiation, strong winds, dust and snow storms, intense heat and cold. The facility includes indoor facilities for basketball, soccer, and volleyball, as well as locker rooms, a gym, and restrooms.
At the shorter, curved end of the central court is a small gym with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the court.
At the same end, a hallway leads to additional amenities, including locker rooms, restrooms, and a utility room.
