The Wurk studio recently completed a project for a public parking space for approximately 7,000 bicycles in Amsterdam, near the central station – about 9 meters below the level of the city’s waterways.
The new “underwater” space, which is part of a larger regeneration project in the area, is linked to the city’s subway and railway systems and is the first of its kind in the world. The bright and welcoming structure also houses nautical-themed maps and works of art along the path that leads users into and through the bike park.
The design is a tribute to water; all of the forms are fluid, from glass to stairs to curved glass.
