In my view, even stadiums have, for several years now, been increasingly transforming their DNA to become genuine entertainment platforms, and we are increasingly resembling a multichannel media.
Stadiums are powerful symbols of shared passions and narrate the stories of their cities through architecture, culture, and collective identity.
Today, working with stadiums—their ongoing physical transformations, how people experience and perceive them—means engaging with urban regeneration, social anthropology, political and economic issues, as well as artistic and cultural expression.
The exhibition at MAXXI in Rome features 54 stadium projects designed and built around the world, presented chronologically to highlight the layered and complex meanings they embody. It offers an exhibition narrative that traces the architectural evolution of stadiums and enriches it with stories of popular culture, major international projects, and artistic works, providing a comprehensive and dynamic exploration.
