As I mentioned in other content here in the Drumroll section of our website, I have always greatly admired companies that, by combining vision, planning, and technology, manage to create high-quality products starting from production waste or environmental protection initiatives, thus becoming ambassadors of sustainability in design.
Sungai Design is a perfect example of how innovation and sustainability can converge in a valuable production cycle. The company was created with the mission of putting the planet first, celebrating the plastic from the rivers of Bali as the main material for its products, thus paving the way for a new era of sustainable design, where waste is transformed into beautiful and durable products, helping to fund global river-cleaning operations.
This process transforms plastic collected from Indonesian rivers into design furniture, telling a story of transformation and possibility. Plastic, once considered waste, is now a valuable material, symbolizing how we can protect the planet, one plastic bag at a time.
The process begins with an intensive plastic cleaning phase, followed by shredding and hot pressing to create hard and durable sheets, which form the basis of the furniture, with a constant commitment to minimizing waste and optimizing product sustainability.
The final stage involves the assembly and polishing of the products by skilled artisans, using ethical and sustainable practices.
In this way, each finished product is not only functional and aesthetically pleasing but also represents a concrete commitment to environmental protection and the promotion of innovative and responsible design.
