I clearly remember my first visit to Tokyo, several years ago. Every corner of the city offered something new, with unexpected discoveries that often stood out against their surroundings.
Hotel Rakuragu in Tokyo is a perfect example of this sense of surprise. Designed by Kooo Architects, it occupies a former parking lot of just 80 square meters, nestled between two buildings in the Nihonbashi district. At first glance, this small space might not seem ideal for a hotel, especially in a densely built area like Tokyo.
However, the hotel’s unique vertical design, stretching across nine floors, maximizes every inch of space. Its striking white rectangular shape, carved with sculptural voids, stands out while fitting seamlessly into the dense urban landscape.
The design aims to offer guests an experience of inner peace, almost like a modern temple, providing a sense of serenity amidst the city’s hustle and bustle. Hotel Rakuragu demonstrates how innovative design can transform spatial constraints into opportunities, blending functionality, style, and a deeply customer-centric experience.
