The concept is one that has captured wide attention: it draws inspiration from the simple geometry of the 2×3 Lego brick, translating its modularity into flexible structures for climbing, balancing, and exploration. Lego China and Nike, together with design studio Ola Shanghai, have launched an innovative project at Baoshan No. 2 Central Primary School in Shanghai, transforming the schoolyard into a modular sports environment.
The design encourages children’s physical creativity, allowing them to become architects of their own play routes and experiment with new ways of moving. Insights gathered from LEGO’s “Build the Change” workshops informed the project, emphasizing the importance of open-ended and collaborative interactions.
Beyond promoting physical activity and creative learning, the initiative aligns with Nike’s “Move to Zero” sustainability philosophy, demonstrating how design can bridge education, play, and environmental responsibility. The project’s modular approach highlights how cross-industry partnerships can create dynamic spaces that evolve with children’s needs, turning every break into an opportunity for movement and innovation
