When I enter a carefully designed space, what strikes me immediately is not just the aesthetics, but how design, color, and ritual come together to create a unique experience. I’m fascinated by how a place can transform everyday actions into moments of wellbeing and connection, and how every detail — from materials to colors — is used to guide the emotion and journey of those who inhabit it.
Manifest 002 in Washington DC takes this concept to an entirely new level. Here, a barbershop is transformed into a true “theatre of self-care”: beyond the street-facing space, there are members-only levels that host lounges, a cocktail bar, retail areas, and workspaces. Each environment has a specific function but maintains stylistic coherence through arches, curved niches, and undulating walls, creating fluidity and visual connections between spaces, while the use of color is conceived as an “emotional cadence.” The space also functions as a cultural hub, where grooming, personal style, and social interaction seamlessly come together, offering much more than a typical barbershop experience.
One of the most innovative aspects of this new space is how architecture, color, and ritual intertwine to offer a multisensory experience, turning a simple visit into an emotional and cultural journey. Luxury and accessibility coexist, and the project succeeds in creating a true “third place,” a meeting point for creative professionals who want to feel part of a community.
